A project for a single-family residence within a privileged surrounding requires a reflection on domestic space and its integration in the landscape. The land has magnificent views towards the Bay of Palma, so the new house shall combine long views with privacy based upon a scheme of quiet lines and volumes. The new house, scheduled to be finished in 2012, is conceived as a classic temple erected from the earth and made of rough finishing Mares stone. A big abstract box is characterized with the rhythm of pilasters, and offers an abstract image that relates to the local landscape while hiding the intimacy of the family and showing a contemporary profile. The house BM is organized in three floors that combine double heights and transverse views. The rational box contains two outdoor hidden patios with opposite orientation that bring nature inside the house. The local Mares stone will be used for most of the finishing, either polished or rough, thus establishing material roots to the land where it stands.

La casa BM plantea un ejercicio rotundo de contención formal. El exterior se articula según la noción de ruina y de elemento defensivo que alberga y protege un interior que es refugio de sus habitantes. La envolvente de la casa ordena un volumen regular cuyas fachadas se ordenan como una secuencia de pilastras de piedra de Marés desbastada. Dichas pilastras no sólo funcionan como imagen abstracta que refiere a lo inexpugnable de la residencia, sino que funcionan como chimeneas de ventilación y acondicionamiento pasivo. Con el paso del tiempo, la casa parece quedar soldada a la tierra en la que apoya y el jardín mediterráneo termina por envolverla por completo, apareciendo así como la ruina de un templo clásico olvidado por la historia.
